I have no admin rights so have copied Notepad++ files/folders from Program Files to my home folder. Since I cannot install plugins, I have added the allowappDataPlugins.xml empty file to that new Notepad++ location. However, when running the copied exe and trying to install an app it still prompts me for admin credentials.

Is NPP_INSTALLED_DIR a registry entry or environment variable? How is it set?

      Thanks,

        Hello @Stevorno,

where does this NPP_INSTALLED_DIR come from? Where does it appear?
Can you give it a try to use one of the zipped npps from
        https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.9.html ?

Just unpack it to a place where you have write access, nothing to configure.
        Start npp and plugin manager.

        Cheers
        Claudia
