      Hi everyone!

I am working on an open source project named Softorage, which is basically a software directory. I recently added ‘Notepad++’ to the directory. Please feel free to have a look at Notepad++’s page on Softorage, and tell me what do you guys think!

What problem are you trying to solve?

Front page hints to install a Flash Player:

Sorry but I don’t see any value in this.
The internet itself is a form of “software directory”; google your need, you will very likely find software for it.
Or maybe you can enlighten us to the value it provides, for those that do not see it?

There are available websites that provide software downloads and earn by bundling adware/malware in software packages. Seeing that made me think, what if there was a software directory that would provide not downloads but links that point to official software’s download page, along with software related information. Check out this page for more on it.

Front page hints to install a Flash Player

Well, the project is in its beta stage, and I recently came up with that layout (so, it is far from complete). Also, I didn’t mean for front page to hint to install Adobe Flash Player. These software entries under different categories (currently 4 only) basically imply their presence in Softorage. Also, I didn’t mean to make it appear that makes users infer ‘Front page hints to install a Flash Player’ from Adobe Flash Players entry there. So, if you have better ideas, do let me know. Also, do you mean to say that front page is hinting users to install all the software present there, from Utilities, Web Browsers and Multimedia applications to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Linking software libraries and frameworks?

            I appreciate your help!

So sorry to hear that. May you suggest any value adding features? I appreciate your interest.

Sounds like less advanced implementation of choco or scoop. Minus the tracking of upstream repositories.

Perhaps start with asking yourself two questions:

              • What are you trying to achieve?
              • Why?

Or maybe a little advanced implementation of websites serving software downloads, depends on the side you’re looking at it from, I guess. Also, Softorage doesn’t (at least currently) address needs of people who have enough understanding of software so that they find themselves pretty friendly to command line interface, but rather caters to those who visit software download websites to fulfill their software related needs.

Would certainly like to work on that in future!

To create an alternative to websites providing software downloads, mechanism of which (the alternative, i.e. Softorage) in itself has no room for adware/malware bundling.

                Why?

To enable everyday users to get the software they want and the related information they need without even the slightest of doubt for added adware/malware.

Thanks for showing interest. It feels nice!

Also, since no software packages are hosted on owned servers, chances of a user not being able to download the software a user wants because of server downtime, are lower, too! So, maybe if a user finds not being able to get the desired software (say an ML library) via routine means, he might as well visit Softorage!
