I was looking for a notepad alternative so I could autosave. Notepad ++ appears to be a full blown editor for programing. I noticed that you can open a file in it’s containing program or something like that ( it’s not running right now ). So it occurred to me that NP++ might be saving or able to save the NP file if I run the programs concurrently. The NP++ editor has just too much unneeded functionality. The alternative is to run it in a simpler mode. I don’t have a clue how to do that. Anything to point me in the right direction will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dave

Maybe the Notepad++ minimalist package : No theme, no plugin, no updater, quick download and play directly. 7z format.
is of interest. Otherwise most of the more sophisticated functionality could be configured off in the settings.
Also on starting via commandline some functionality could be disabled, see http://docs.notepad-plus-plus.org/index.php/Command_Line_Switches.
But it is not complete clear to me from your post what you would like to disable.

Thanks for getting back to me. What I want is to use Microsoft Notepad and have Notepad++ save the file every so often. Something caused Windows to shut down and I don’t think it was me. I lost a document that I had not saved for a while. So I’m trying to avoid that in the future.
I will look at what you have suggested. To be frank though, I have no clue what to disable. As to the 7z format you speak of, I have no idea what you are talking about. I found a download button on the website and clicked it. I clearly have some homework to do. Please stay in touch. I will write when I have a better understanding of the program. Thanks, Dave
