NodeBB: Why can't I create a separate account?

I’m not pleased with the authentication/account creation options this NodeBB community offers. Why can’t I create a new account with a separate e-mail address and password instead of being required to recycle an existing account through OAuth? This is a bad idea in terms of security, privacy and mail sorting/filtering. Moreover, when I tried to sign up through GitHub, the verification e-mail never arrived, and when I tried Twitter, I got an error message (see below). Google+ finally worked, but with the caveats mentioned above.
Can the option to create a separate account with a new user name/e-mail address and password be added (like on most sites)?
