Another issue: You absolutely must run Notepad++ as Administrator to make file associations work. While it would technically be possible to register associations for the current user only, which does not require more privileges, Notepad++ does not seem to make use of this. Instead, the associations silently fail if added as normal user.

Notepad++ is already able to detect whether it’s run with Administrator privileges (look at the title bar). So it should either lock down these settings (and offer restarting as Admin) or allow setting per-user associations correctly.

It took me a web search to figure that out. When documentation does not exist, the product itself must be intuitive instead.

Totally agree. N++ is an editing tool, not a file processing utility. One slightly possible solution would be to provide the name of a macro to run immediately as a file is opened.

There are already issues for this with an even better solution. Please take a look at issue #685 (“Non-blocking find/replace actions”). If you want to indicate that this feature is wanted, you could upvote in an issue comment.

Now it is 180 seconds - which is still a bit crazy if you want to rephrase something. Would it help to discuss what type of abuse this short time scale is meant to solve, so people could agree a reasonable time limit, or set it to infinity if that is not going to open the system to some sort of attack.

I do realise the pressure that you are all under, but a really short editing period makes for more scrappy, less thought out contributions - which is a shame.
