This sounds like a good idea for an app feature or plug-in, but unfortunately, unless you have backups, I’m going to have to guess that no, you don’t have auto backup of config files. I know I’ve been making manual backups for files I feel I need but mostly for copying from one version to the next for test purposes, to take my settings over without having to, as you say, manually re-set them. I, like you, did this enough times to start making back-ups myself.

One of the problems, is that the main files are the only things that have a “fail safe” by having default files settings in separate files that the system can restore…but once you start using the standard files, all the changes go directly into those files and no backups of the active settings gets made unless you do it yourself. There are so many options that are scattered around in the different files that you really should have a program/batch file that would automatically make backups of the changed config files for future protection, but that’s not the way the system works right now. That’s why we say, back up and back up often. Sorry.
